Polytab Murals

From 2015 to 2017, I worked as a teaching artist for the Baltimore United Viewfinders, an afterschool art program for middle and high schoolers in East Baltimore. Our time together culminated into 6 collaged, polytab murals of the youth and their heroes from Black History. The collages were created by the youth as part of a curriculum called, Becoming, where together we explored how we can become the people we want to be. I installed the murals with the help of Ronald Rucker and Wyatt Kroopf.

In 2020 as part of UHILL Walls, I helped create and install a mural in Durham, North Carolina with artists Claire Waterman and John Mark Daniel. The photographs of Durham residents, past and present, were printed on polytab cloth and glued permanently to the wall. Claire designed the painted background. The poem To My Ancestors, written by Vivette Jeffries-Logan, is painted above the photographs.
